Dryhowe Bridge is situated in Bannisdale, 5 miles north of Kendal and just off the A6. Access is via the little used minor road giving access to this charming and little known valley. The woodland sits in a natural hollow, either side of the Bannisdale beck, at the end of the public road. The woodland borders the open common and there is easy access to the far Eastern Lake District fell tops.
The woodland occupies both banks of the Bannisdale beck. The roadside area was felled in 2011 and has been replanted with native woodland which is growing well. The opposite bank contains remnant natural woodland consisting of alder, birch and willow along the beck and areas of mature mixed conifer with some fine aged oaks. The woodland is bounded by a stone wall with two access gates from the public road. Both entrances would benefit from widening and the addition of parking areas. Planning permission will normally be required for these works.
