Set within the context of the Edwardian Town Walls this property in Berwick-upon-Tweed used to be a School canteen prior to initial conversion in the 1980’s. The scheme aims to take advantage of the cavernous roof space to create an entirely new floor providing a substantial living area, plus office and additional bedroom.
The project benefits from using airsource heat pump and photovoltaic renewables allowing the client to claim renewable heat incentives and feed in tariffs.
Unusually, the proposals saw the installation of a steel portal frame creating the structure for the new floor and allowing for a large floor penetration to drop light into the deeper parts of the plan.
Edwin Thompson were commissioned to design and obtain statutory consents for these works.
