The project is a demolition and new build within the Keswick conservation area, four social dwellings a mixture of two and three bed dwellings using vernacular materials and adopting a dormer and gable language.
The project delivers high performance buildings as local affordable housing through the Keswick Community Housing Trust who is the client on the project, the fourth build project for the group. Edwin Thompson are delighted to support the community group in this tricky project, featuring a tight urban site with many shared boundary walls.
The project was won through an invited design competition, with design work starting shortly afterwards. Edwin Thompson provided full Architectural services including design, statutory permissions and contract administration. Edwin Thompson also provided Party wall surveying services.
The roof structure has challenged the project team and the constructors, utilising both gables and dormers to deliver ceiling vaults on first and second floors.
