Frank Wathen

Frank has a wealth of experience in the building industry! He started work as an architectural technician in 1968, working for a private developer. After obtaining several years experience he took up a position as a Building Control Officer, working for a Local Authority. This has given him considerable insight into the authorities’ requirements and priorities which puts him in an ideal position to advise clients and assist them on getting consent for applications.

Moving on from building control Frank decided to work abroad for several years, initially taking up a position as a building superintendent for Sante Fe Drilling working on behalf of the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) in Saudi Arabia. Subsequently he became construction manager for a building corporation carrying out civil engineering works around well heads and oil refineries and managing the installation of oil pipelines crossing public highways as well as civil works around the company’s residential facilities.

Responsibilities included looking after a crew of over 200 multi national men, scheduling and inspecting the works, and obtaining work orders from Aramco engineers. Frank also carried out contracts in Qatar as a construction surveyor for a company from Bahrain. Working on the Doha University, he supervised on site construction around the university complex, again using a multi-national workforce.

On his return to the UK Frank became a consultant for a number of years advising and acting for various agencies, private clients and local authorities. He eventually took up a permanent position as a contract surveyor with a national housing association. He has been with Edwin Thompson since June 2005. Frank deals with residential as well as commercial projects, from the simple and straightforward to the complex and apparently insurmountable! Projects range from the installation of two mile long effluent pumping mains and the refurbishment of a public swimming pool to residential steading conversions and new builds

With a ‘can do’ attitude Frank is ideally suited to advising clients with challenging and ambitious projects.
