Our client wished to convert the historic stone built cart barn, milking byre and smithy into luxury Bed & Breakfast accommodation whilst retaining the traditional character of the farm steading nestled in the heart of the Northumberland AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
Our design provided five double en-suite rooms positioned within the existing footprint of the buildings. Further facilities included a drying room, cycle storage, utility and laundry. The existing window and door openings were incorporated within the design with further openings added to provide stunning views of the surrounding countryside including Holy Island. A timber clad highly insulated wall faced with locally sourced timber was built within the open cart barn allowing the retention of the original cast iron columns with the timber cladding matching the traditional timber work contained within the retained agricultural buildings.
The Bed & Breakfast is now successfully operating and the clients are converting further barns to support the business.
