The project began as a development of former listed agricultural buildings and farmhouse at The Square Dalston for a local farmer whom worked the smallholding for a number of decades before exploring a change of use to residential. Edwin Thompson was commissioned to prepare full planning designs and listed building consent for the refurbishment of three barns of various styles, ages and appearances. Following obtaining of Planning and listed building consent for development, Edwin Thompson carried out technical design for the new owner of ‘the barn’, comprising renovation and refurbishment of this single storey characterful barn, and obtaining building regulations permissions for a high performance modern dwelling in the centre of Dalston.
Below are 3 photographs of the barn before the work started.
Starting to rebuild some of the external walls to make it structurally sound.
