Neal opened Edwin Thompson’s Berwick Office in 1980 having moved from Keswick. He became a partner in the business in 1982 and Senior Partner in 1990. He specialises in rural property and advises clients throughout South-East Scotland and Northumberland.
He undertakes a wide variety of work including specialising in the valuation of most aspects of rural property for all purposes, especially secured lending, tax, strategic planning, acquisitions/disposals, investment and partnership dissolutions; acquisitions, disposals and lettings including the preparation of Tenancy and Contract Farming Agreements; farm and estate management; planning and development; renewable energy negotiations, particularly “big” wind, but also solar and biogas systems; expert witness; Landlord and Tenant issues including advice and negotiations in respect of rent reviews.
Neal is a RICS Registered Valuer and has been an AMC Appointed Valuer for many years.
Neal was born and brought up in Keswick in the Lake District where he attended St Bee’s School before reading economics and land economy at Cambridge. He has a deep love of the countryside and enjoys fishing, shooting (with every decreasing accuracy), walking and gardening and fighting with his wife’s young grandchildren.
