Ali McTavish

Ali is a graduate rural surveyor who joined the team in November 2019 after graduating from Scottish Rural University College (SRUC) with a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Rural Business Management.

From a young age, Ali had an interest in the agricultural sector through growing up in the countryside and assisting with livestock on a range of holdings in her later years. Realising this was a career she wished to pursue she enrolled in SRUC in 2015. Ali is involved in many aspects of the firm’s work including property management, residential sales, countryside stewardship & agri-environment schemes, mapping, forest and woodland management, utilities and valuation work. She is a member of the South of Scotland Border Valuers Association, a probationary member of SAAVA and currently studying towards her APC.

In her spare time Ali enjoys attending young farmers, keeping fit, being outdoors and embarking on various hill climbs in the borders and highlands.

Benjamin Abbott

Benjamin is a qualified Building Designer awarded for Excellence and a qualified Carpenter and Joiner from Western Australia, recently moved to the UK in 2017 and having joined Edwin Thompson in 2018. He continues to build on his knowledge, skills and experience through his studies to become a qualified architect.

Before shifting into building design, Benjamin previously managed his own carpentry and joinery business, offering a wide variety of carpentry, joinery and building services with a high standard of customer service and project outcomes. Augmented by an excellent grounding in practical construction, Benjamin brings detailed, conscientious and creative design solutions to a variety projects, including renovations, extensions and new builds. Through attentiveness to the client and their brief, with careful communication, he focusses on providing complete and meticulous designsolutions uniquely suited to the client’s context, meeting the brief and beyond. With practical knowledge of and experience in many aspects of the construction industry, Benjamin is uniquely positioned to offer detailed and creative designs coupled with a practical construction perspective that sees a project through to completion smoothly and with excellence.

Benjamin is also particularly passionate about conscientious sustainable design solutions that use intelligent and informed design to create efficient and eco-friendly buildings. These can range from using traditional construction techniques, products and materials to variety of sustainable alternatives.

Community minded, Benjamin has also served in a variety of volunteer and social work capacities, his work taking him around Australia, across South-East Asia, into the Middle East, and finally to the UK. Having also served as a member, trainer, National Council member and International Council member of a charitable international emergency disaster relief organisation of high repute since 2005, Benjamin brings a further broad wealth of experience and understanding applicable to many situations.

A family man, Benjamin loves spending time with his wife and four children, also enjoying and supporting his extended family, friends and local community. Alone or with others, he loves almost anything outdoors, particularly camping, hiking, touring, surfing and kayaking. When he’s not active,you will often find him sitting comfortably with an epic novel and a hot cup of tea, with a sketch book close by – just in case.

Ashleigh Conlon MARLA

Ashleigh joined Edwin Thompson in 2016 and has recently achieved the National Federation of Property Professionals Level 6 Technical Award in Residential Letting and Property Management. Ashleigh is responsible for the everyday running of the Galashiels Lettings Department. Her main duties includes pre-let valuations, dealing with enquiries, viewings and referencing applicants, producing tenancy agreements and handling deposit registrations. Ashleigh is also responsible for the management of over 60 properties and ensuring both our clients and tenants receive the best possible service.
